Range Rover will use next week's Los Angeles motor show to premiere the five-door version of the all-new Evoque sport-utility vehicle.
The upmarket family sport-ute will join the three-door variant _ unveiled for the first time in Paris last month _ in Thai showrooms mid-2011 at similar prices of B4-5m.
While the three-door's rakish looks have also been applied on the five-door, the more practical Evoque gets a 30mm higher roof for better headroom for both front and rear occupants. The driver's seats is also slightly lower in the five-door.
Both Evoques get the same drivetrain options: 190hp 2.2-litre turbo-diesel and 240hp (likely to be detuned to no more than 220hp for the Thai market) 2.0-litre turbo-petrol mated to four-wheel-drive and six-speed automatic transmission.
Although the five-door is some 30kg heavier on the average, performance will be very similar to that of the three-door. The five-door will get adjustable suspension incorporated into the Terrain Response system.
Unlike the three-door that's basically unrivalled in the luxury SUV market, the five-door faces a number of comparable competitors despite its unique sporty image. They include the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60.
